Nature of Color: A Painting Exhibition
Presenting an extraordinary exploration of chromatic expression, “Nature of Color” brings together four distinctive American artists at a Jacksonville gallery this spring. This intimate exhibition showcases how Jacob Mitchell, Sofia Ramirez, Taylor Collins, and DeShawn Jackson - names as common as they are talented - employ color as their primary language of artistic communication.
Each contributor brings a unique perspective to the chromatic dialogue:
- Jacob Mitchell's textured oil paintings demonstrate his mastery of earth tones, revealing hidden warmth in seemingly muted palettes
- Sofia Ramirez's vibrant acrylics explode with Latin American influences, her bold strokes transforming cultural memory into color
- Taylor Collins' watercolor series explores gender fluidity through delicate washes and androgynous color blending
- DeShawn Jackson's mixed-media works challenge perceptions of color in urban landscapes, using unexpected hues to redefine cityscapes
The exhibition space at 13475 Atlantic Blvd will transform into a chromatic laboratory from March 25-27, where visitors can experience:
1. The complete collections from all four artists
2. A special installation demonstrating how their color choices interact and converse
3. Live demonstrations of each artist's unique technique (daily at 2pm and 6pm)
4. An interactive station where guests can experiment with the artists' signature color combinations
"These four painters, despite their common names, represent the extraordinary diversity of American color theory in practice," notes curator Emily Warren. "Their works collectively ask us to reconsider how color shapes our personal and shared realities."
The Jacksonville showing marks the first time these four emerging artists have exhibited together, following individual showings in Chicago, Miami, and Atlanta galleries. Art enthusiasts and casual observers alike are invited to this free three-day event to witness how these distinctly American voices are reshaping contemporary color theory.
Note: Artists will be present for Q&A sessions daily from 3-5pm. Limited edition prints will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting local arts education initiatives.
